GIF ME MY FAVOURITE_

Just to show you which were my favourite GIF’s at this point. And by the way, I was freaking enjoying making these. One of the best moments of this project_

I absolutely loved this one because I thought it perfectly conveyed exactly what my concept was about and it looked exactly like what I wanted my final outcome to look like. It was lively, effortless, airy, very airy, with no perception or measure of time. But rather floating through it and space_

My next step was figuring out what to do with these designs. My concept at this point revolved around transforming the heart into an object of art (that lives through time), stepping away from it’s mortal aspect and perceived inevitable death by the living. The means of doing that was through forms of art that transmitted movement.

I first tried an app for the iPhone (very kindly lent by a cool tutor named Zak) called Poppy 3D, that basically makes 3D images which is pretty cool. Except it didn’t work out, I had to take photos of my play dough hearts and it wasn’t looking good or effective enough. So out of that failure I looked up how to make animated GIF’S and I made it work. Here is the 1st one:

After that I just kept on making more and more.

_DESIGNING + TRANSFORMING_

AFTER DOING ENOUGH RESEARCH TO HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT IT IS I WANTED TO DO, I STARTED CREATING SOMETHING REAL…

FullSizeRender-10 copy.jpgIMG_2907.JPGIMG_2984.JPG

  • I transformed the red play dough heart and created another one with a set of different colours and textures.

bloodtexture1.jpgbloodtexture2.jpg

  • I transformed the textures I had created with the blood from the pig’s heart, simply by changing the colours to result with something looking quite sky like.

  • Working with optical illusion
  • 2nd: I only realised after I had done the heart in this way, how much it resembled or reminded me of René Magritte’s ‘The Future of Statues’

  • I created a print with the arteries and blood vessels, which I also later transformed once more.

  • Works created thinking on the research I did of that list of artists that work with colour such as Rothko, Itten, Turrell…

_DESIGNING_

_REAL HEART_

I bought a real pig’s heart (which is the heart most resemblant to a human heart, in size as well) because I wanted to get a feel of a real heart, the colour, the texture, consistency,etc.. I dissected the heart to take a closer look at the inside, it’s mechanism, the veins, arteries… which actually looked like paths and roads and I found that very interesting and rather inspiring.

I used the blood from the pig’s heart and smothered it all over a piece of paper creating these textures which I will later use and transform in my designs.

STOP. THINK. CONTINUE

I am at a point where I will once more gather my thoughts and remind myself of what it is I want to do and convey. There were a few quotes that really helped me at this point in the project:

  • ”The physical impossibility of death in the mind of someone living” – Damien Hirst- http://www.damienhirst.com/the-physical-impossibility-of
  • ”We are anxious that our collections shall be kept intact, to be handed to our children or a museum, as our hope for a little immortality” – Susan Pearce – http://samples.sainsburysebooks.co.uk/9781134640751_sample_517927.pdf
  • ”Is death the fatal shattering of personal existence?” – http://www.britannica.com/topic/death-rite
  • ”The dead may not care what happens to them, but the living do. ”http://anthropology.berkeley.edu/courses/anthropology-death-beginning-and-end-things-special-topics-medical-anthropology

NEXT STEP:

— MOVE AWAY FROM ANATOMICAL ASPECTS OF THE HEART + CONCEPT– CHANGE ASPECT/PERCEPTION OF THE HEART

  • AS ART – SOMETHING THAT SIMPLY LIVES ON – NOT LIKE IMMORTAL IN THE SENSE OF A MORTAL LIFE BUT AS A SPIRIT..
  • AS SOMETHING LESS BLOODY, BODILY- SOMETHING THAT HAS A FUNCTION P LATER DECAYS – INTO SOMETHING LIGHT, EFFORTLESS

EXPERIMENTATION 2

heartx2.jpg2ND EXPERIMENTATION AROUND THE HEART:

I MADE A A HEART OUT OF PLAY DOUGH AND DECIDED TO START PAINTING OVER THE TOP. ONCE WITH RED METALLIC PAINT, THEN ANOTHER LAYER OF NORMAL PAINT ADDING DETAILS, AND THIRT POURING RED GLITTERY PAINT (like blood but not quite – idea of transition. )

MORE SOURCE, MORE THOUGHTS, MORE CONCEPTS

16.jpg15.jpg

  • DAVID LACHAPELLE: COLOURS, SCENERY, LIGHT
  • SACRED HEARTS
  • PLASMA BALLS: ILLUSION OF ELECTRICITY – IDEA FOR SOME TYPE OF INTERACTIVE SHRINE

But then we move on to other thoughts for a form for this project. I think on how something that has movement seems lively, similar to alive, therefore I started looking into art forms that created or conveyed movement:

  • LENTICUALR PRINTING (i.e 3D postcards)
  • HOLOGRAMS
  • GIF’S

Thinking of this and looking into it was a great decisive point as i really felt I had something with this idea of working with art forms that transmitted movement/life.
